Jayson Chin & Associates – orthotics and prosthetics practice in Cape Town

The loss of a limb has a profound impact on a person’s independence. The loss of a limb also has a psychological and social impact on a person’s life. Our prosthetics rehabilitation program works to restore independence by combining an array of state-of-the-art internationally sourced components with a comfortable, functional socket that we guarantee for a period of up to six months. Our practice, based in Vincent Pallotti Hospital lower ground, also works closely with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, biokineticists, psychologists and orthopaedic surgeons to address other needs related to the loss of a limb. Under the direction of our dedicated certified prosthetists, Dave Herman and Theo Kriel, every effort is made to ensure function, comfort and an aesthetically pleasing prosthesis.

The fit of the socket (the interface between the residual limb and the prosthesis) is the key to successful use of a prosthetic limb or prosthetics in general. This is why sockets are custom-made to fit the bony elements and muscles of the person’s residual limb, to provide more control, ensuring an active lifestyle. New materials like urethanes, mineral based liners and improved silicone, are much more flexible than the previously used hard plastics, allowing people of all ages to wear a comfortable, flexible and lightweight prosthesis.

Jayson Chin & Associates has extensive experience working with complex cases including hip-disarticulation, bi-lateral amputees, and those who face unique challenges with their residual limb. The rehabilitation program offers a broad scope of care that helps individuals set and meet goals and ultimately restore their lifestyles and regain their independence.
